I’ve posted before about the environmental impact of meat eating, and some of the half truths of high food prices. The German magazine Spiegel looked at the issue last week (article in English here), specifically with regard to beef production, and came up with the stat that 1kg of organic beef steak has the equivalent greenhouse gas emissions of driving a small car 113.4 kilometres! The reason – cows burping and farting methane. According to the article agriculture in Germany produces the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions as all of Germany’s transport system put together.
So stop eating meat!
