It’s Europe Day today! So pause for a moment and reflect on what has been achieve since Robert Schuman’s appeal for the creation of a Coal and Steel community – the Schuman Declaration – 57 years ago today.

We’ve come a long way since then and it’s even been considered important enough for Vox Politics tonight (from 2200 BST) on 18 Doughty Street to devote an hour to EU politics matters. One of the other panellists is from Global Vision, a small eurosceptic group that trots out the old lines about flexible trade relationships, get rid of red tape, bla, bla… What a load of rubbish. The way to solve these things in the EU is to have a proper political debate and real political accountability. Much better to try to be constructive.
