This makes me so, so, so happy! The atheist buses are on the streets of London.

God how I hate male feminists!
Maybe I am just going to the wrong sites, but I always seem to find at least one person who says convert or burn in hell. Thanks for the warning ,but i don’t think you’ll be making me convert on threats of hell.
if you want to know the future look ahead!

I have no doubt that many atheists do “enjoy life”; however, please remember that when you die you WILL give account of that life to God (Romans 14 v 12). If you have died without having faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour then you will be condemned to eternal punishment in Hell – you have been warned.
Keith – “When the time comes for you to die you can truly say life was crap and now it’s all over.”
Just because one is an atheist, doesn’t mean one doesn’t enjoy life…
I agree with Bob. Also, Timothy 2 : 3 vs 11-13 “If we died with him [Jesus] we will also live with him. If we endure with him we will also reign with him. If we disown him he will disown us. If we are faithless he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself”.
Food for the thinking man.
We can have a certainty of eternal life in Heaven based on Jesus’ words in John 11 v 25 viz. “I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live.” Jesus also taught that those who do not believe in Him will suffer eternal damnation. He backed up His words by His resurrection.
Are you trying to be an idiot you moron, God is nothing but technology, do you see technology out there? And the gods control technology, are you one of them? I thought not.
I think every one has a path to walk in life. I am a Christian by conviction after walking many a dark and narrow street. I try not to enforce my views on others though, and let them walk their own path. I think as long as you hold the atheist view and are prepared to question your reasons for doing so in the same way those who have questioned life come to the conclusions that God exists, then you are a thinking person. We all have our story to tell. Many people who have believed in God have become atheists in the same way that many, and some well respected atheists, have found God: Fay Weldon, Antony Flew and Terry Pratchett for instance. As I said, it’s only when one’s mortality is brought home to them, or one loses a loved one, does the argument of there being a God or not becomes a little shaky. I wish all atheists well as they go on their journey. When the time comes for you to die you can truly say life was crap and now it’s all over.
KeithT:
They didn’t want to use “probably”, but they had to to comply with strict British advertising standards:
In Italy, they are being more decisive:

Also, have you ever been on a sinking ship and polled your fellow passengers to see if there were any atheists? Otherwise what is the basis of that opinion?
The one thing’s for sure; we will all find out sooner or later if God exists or not. Death is a certaintity that might feel like an absurdity to the young – who in turn feel they are imortal. Taxes and death are two absolute certainties as absurd as they might be. Only time will tell.

See http://www.atheistfoxholes.org/.
I’m also reminded what Voltaire said:
“Le doute n’est pas une condition agréable, mais la certitude est absurde.”
(Doubt isn’t a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd)
Well, just my opinion of course, but you will never find an atheist in a sinking ship will you? Funny that don’t you think? Did you notice that the slogan on the bus reads – and I quote: “There’s PROBABLY no God” I find that very strange, because those who believe in God are 100% certain that God exists. The so called Atheists are still uncertain about this issue and are hedging there bets it seems. If the Atheists don’t believe in God, at least they should be certain that God doesn’t exist in both their hearts and their minds and make positive statements. I’m in the camp that says he does exist by the way, and my slogan is: “God exists, and to know the truth will set you free”.
Why do you say that, Jack?
for atheists money is their god
The reason why Christ’s followers (Christians) are referred to as sheep is not because we “blindly follow religious dogma” but because Jesus is the good shepherd who gives His life for the sheep – John’s Gospel chapter 10.
I hadn’t heard the “sheep” vs “goats” before, but sheep is an excellent term for people who blindly follow religious dogma. Very good!
You claim to believe in Jesus Christ; if that was so you would believe what He taught. In Luke chapter 16 verses 19 to 30 Jesus taught that there is a place of torment and a place of blessing. There is no other place; purgatory is a Roman Catholic invention not a Biblical teaching. Moreover, in Matthew chapter 25 Jesus taught that there are two groups of people illustrated by the terms “Sheep” and “goats”. The sheep go to everlasting life the goats to eternal punishment (Matthew 25 verse 46).
Bob,
two things:
a) I do already believe in Jesus Christ
b) Your hell concept is not completely correct. One christian belief is that there is the Purgatory in which the sinners may suffer for a limited time until their sins have been “burned away” and go to heaven too. So Hell does not have to be a final fate.
Matthias – You must repent of your unbelief and ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour. The Bible clearly says that those who don’t do this will end up in Hell when they die.
@Bob:
I read in a german article about this bus campaign and (I don’t know if it is true) there was given as a background the explanation that a friend of Jon was annoyed by some christian claim that atheists would go to hell and that she wanted to make a similar sharp statement of her own. But why should an atheist worry about going to hell? It’s a place he would not believe in (btw, I don’t either).
What annoys me is that after centuries of religious fundamentalists of every colour spreading their messages as “the only truth” now also atheist feel urged to do the same. I believe, that a message that can only be propagated with a threat can’t be flawless. Nevertheless, I believe, what I believe- if others don’t, it’s okay for me.
Thank you Josh for taking the trouble to reply in a reasonable manner.
1) I note that you fully recognise the risk you are taking by being an atheist. Truly you will be without excuse when you stand before God.
2) Concerning Jews, there are Jews who have accepted Jesus as Saviour and Lord. They will go to Heaven. Concerning Jews who have not accepted Jesus and concerning all non-Christians of whatever religion the words of Jesus are non-negotiable viz. “I am the way, the truth and the life; no-one comes to the Father but through me” John’s Gospel chapter 14 v 6. This is re-iterated in Acts 4 v 12 where we read that “there is salvation in no-one else, there is no other name, under Heaven, given among men, by which we must be saved”.
Thanks for the warning, Bob Hutton. As an atheist that’s a risk I’ve resigned myself to taking. But what of Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus? Will they all be suffering everlasting torments in Hell when they die because their one true religion happens to be the wrong one?
You must repent of your unbelief and you must ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and personal Saviour. If you do this then Heaven is your destination when you die; if you do not do this then you will end up in everlasting torments in Hell when you die. You have been warned.
I believe, that there is a god- and didn’t bother you with that thought (until now) either!

Thank you for that campaign.
Zeno,
“The advert says what it says. You can infer whatever you like.”
I asked a simple question. I don’t know why you avoid it.
German TV news (ARD Nachtmagazin) just reported about the atheist bus campaign. Not too bad…!
TT
The advert says what it says. You can infer whatever you like.
From the BHA’s website (http://www.humanism.org.uk/bus-campaign):
“Isn’t this just atheist preaching – like religions do?
This has been an overwhelmingly positive campaign, as evidenced by thousands of warm, good-natured comments at justgiving.com/atheistbus. It isn’t, and was never intended to be an attack on religion or an attempt at “proselytising” for atheism. After all, an advert on a bus isn’t going to convert anyone, and whilst a few – but very few – commentators have seen it as “anti-religious”, most have recognised it as a simple statement of non-religious beliefs.
Our slogan is an affirmation for people that it’s OK not to be religious; that if you are not religious, there is absolutely no reason to worry about that
The advertisements were designed as a response to particular hellfire-and-brimstone adverts; our slogan is an affirmation for people that it’s OK not to be religious; that if you are not religious, there is absolutely no reason to worry about that, and that one can lead a happy, enjoyable and rewarding life without religion. Of course most non-religious people recognise that the best way of leading a happy, enjoyable, positive and rewarding life is by working with, cooperating with, and supporting other people to do the same.”

Zeno,
“Who made that claim?”
Well, what does the wording of the advert mean, if not what I infer?
“Anyway, isn’t is just as smug to be told that, as unbelieving heathens, we won’t be able to spend eternity beside the righteous believers at the right hand of the Lord?”
Quite possibly – but was that the intention; to prove that atheists (or perhaps agnostics, as it says “probably”) can be just as smug as self-righteous believers?
Robert
No. It’s not true!
Trooper Thompson said: “What makes you think that atheists are happier and enjoy life more?”
Who made that claim?
Anyway, isn’t is just as smug to be told that, as unbelieving heathens, we won’t be able to spend eternity beside the righteous believers at the right hand of the Lord?
It’s a bit smug really, isn’t it? What makes you think that atheists are happier and enjoy life more? Any evidence?
Is it true that you (as in ‘those involved’) wanted it to say that there *is* not god, but the ASA insisted on adding the word ‘probably’ to satsify some rule on accuracy or whatever?
That’s pretty neat. Godless buses. . . what will the English think of next?
P.S. We have the same Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
Have you seen Bus ateo?
Nice!
