Don’t worry, this is not going to turn into a blog about sport. But cricket is a great British institution, especially when you’re listening to Test Match Special on Radio 4 or 5 Live. With 6 weeks of cricket ahead for the World Cup there are going to be plenty of evenings with the radio on in the background.
It started well – West Indies legend Viv Richards was commentating today on the opening match where West Indies defeated Pakistan. Not only is Viv responsible for one of my earliest memories of watching live cricket – smashing the ball into the river while playing at Ebbw Vale for Glamorgan in the twighlight of his career – but he’s also a thoroughly decent man. His soft Antigua accent and the very British tones of Aggers made for most pleasant listening.
