Problems at Sizewell B nuclear power plant were partly to blame for blackouts in the UK yesterday. Costs of nuclear decommissioning are due to soar above the £73bn already calculated, announced on Tuesday this week. So Gordon Brown states yesterday how keen he is for the UK to build new nuclear power plants. Not only is Brown’s approach wrong (as I’ve previously argued) but what happened to sensible government communications? Has the grid disappeared? No-one can have predicted the Sizewell issue, but Number 10 must surely have known about the decommissioning statement.

And that’s not even mentioning the ongoing farce at Sellafield. They don’t learn, I’m afraid.
