I feel quite pleased with myself today – I cycled over to the Tooting Bec Lido and swam there with some friends from the civil service. The pool is 90m long; make a bit of a change from normal swimming pools! Anyway, I swam 12 lengths, so just over 1km, and hell did I not feel good after that. Clearly I am nowhere near as fit as I once was. Yet with a summer in London ahead of me and plenty of time to inline skate and swim, I should manage to get a bit more in shape.
The Lido is 100 years old this year, and has been renovated a bit for this summer. The water is quite cool – ideal as this stops too many small children messing around and leaves it vaguely clear for people to swim lengths. However, today was cloudy and cool and there was not much extra space to sit around the edge of the pool – I dread to think how it will be on a really warm day!
You missed the excellent Dive-In Movie Festival at this esteemed pool, winner of the 2006 Golden Goggles Award for best outdoor pool in London! But try out Brockwell Lido, too — the other amazing pool in South London.
